0IX. personality :: kyle is usually laid back and carefree until - you hurt someone he cares about, you mess with his food or you mess with his pay. if he likes you, he'll do anything for you, if he doesn't he'll do anything to you. his sense of humor is not appreciated by all who meet him and he uses it as a defense mechanism in uncomfortable situations, or to create uncomfortable situations. he has an eye for detail, is capable of noticing the strangest things that seem inconsequential at first but may be important at a later time. he gets very frustrated when things don't go his way and his first reaction to most of those situations is to hit things or throw things. he has a very protective nature, his reactions may seem rash and careless but it is to fool his opponent. he is very intelligent but doesn't flaunt it to throw people off.

*the early years
kyle grew up a typical wizard family with his twin brother alec. they had plenty of magical toys to play with and prepare them for their education and their futures as wizards. it was quickly discovered that kyle did not have an affinity for flying, not that he was afraid of heights but rather he just lacked the control needed to fly. instead he and his brother had real potion kits to practice with and they soon competed against each other; who could make the biggest boom. luckily neither of them managed to cause any serious damage to people or property before the kits could be taken from them. they learned quite a bit about caring for owls and different breeds thanks to the family business, their parents hoped that at least one of them would be interested in taking over one day.
*the school years
kyle was quickly ushered into the gryffindor house when the sorting hat was placed on his head. he and his brother did really well academically but bored rather easily. the pair would usually get themselves into a lot of trouble and end up with extra homework for punishment. that would work in their favor, since it gave them the opportunities to learn more and get well ahead of their peers. kyle still couldn't get the hang of flying but he started playing with potions that were beyond his school years skill level, with great success. the boys also joined a dueling club as neither were very good at quidditch. kyle and alec were in constant competition with one another and very few stood a chance against them during duels. both seemed to be popular with the girls but neither were interested in anything serious. if a girl got too attached, they were cut loose.
*the adult years
kyle graduated with o's in all the n.e.w.t.s. required to become an auror. although his parents would have preferred that the boys were owl breeders, they were proud nonetheless. the ryan twins shared an office at the ministry as most of their fellow aurors didn't know how to handle either of them. they were troublemakers in the ministry but so good at catching criminal witches and wizards, that they couldn't afford to be let go. kyle picked up the nickname 'cutter' after an early mission, where he was disarmed of his wand, but successfully took down his target with a muggle knife that he carried.
apparently assisting in taking down barty crouch jr. was a big mistake. they would receive anonymous threatening letters that for some reason couldn't be traced. it didn't worry either of the boys though, they were confident that they would catch the criminal before they had a chance to strike.
shortly after crouch jr. escaped from azkaban and brought voldemort back, the ryans were sent out on a raid, unfortunately a set up to have them removed from service permanently. the raid was in borgin and burke's, where a magical fight broke out. by the time back-up showed up, alec was already down and kyle was struck down from his protective position over his brother.
the pair woke up in st. mungo's hospital, seemingly unscathed. that's when it was discovered that alec's memory had been shattered. although there was nothing physically wrong with his brother, they couldn't get him to remember anything about his life after graduating from hogwarts. kyle reluctantly returned to his duties as an auror, a little lost and broken without his brother and partner. he would keep his eyes and ears open for the spell used to hurt alec, so that his brother could be healed.
